Our impact and performance

We want to be open about the difference Southdown makes, how we are performing, and where we are working to improve.

Every year, we work alongside thousands of people across Sussex through housing, mental health, employment and learning disability support. Our aim is to help people feel safe, stay well, build connection and live with dignity, respect and independence.
We also work with the NHS, local authorities, commissioners, voluntary sector partners and community organisations to help make support more joined-up, accessible and centred around the people we support.

This page brings together our impact, performance information, strategy, reports and regulatory details:

Impact report

Our impact

Impact is about what changes for people.

It might be someone feeling safer at home, getting support before a crisis, building confidence, finding work, feeling more connected, managing money worries, or having more choice and independence in daily life.

Our latest Impact Report shares stories, data and examples from across Southdown, including housing, mental health, employment, learning disability support, financial inclusion, community-based services, client and tenant voice and partnership and system working.

Impact at a glance

Our Impact Report includes headline information about:

  • people supported across Southdown
  • the difference people say our support has made through our services
  • client and tenant voice
  • partnership work and system change

Behind every figure is a person, home, relationship, moment of progress or step towards greater independence.

Measuring to improve

How we measure, learn and improve

We use evidence, feedback and performance information to understand what is working well, where there are risks or gaps, and what needs to change.

This includes service data, complaints, quality checks, financial reporting, tenant satisfaction measures, regulatory requirements, and feedback from clients, tenants, colleagues and partners.

Our Quality and Performance teams work with services to review evidence, identify themes and support improvement. Service leaders, the Executive Team, our Board and Board committees also use this information to make decisions, provide assurance and keep Southdown focused on its responsibilities.

Client and tenant voice is central to this work. Feedback from the people we support helps us understand how services feel in real life, not just how they appear in reports.

The Southdown Beacon also supports how we learn and improve. It gives us a shared framework for psychologically informed support, helping us work with compassion, clarity and consistency.

By listening, learning and acting on what we find, we can strengthen practice, improve systems and stay open and accountable to the people and communities we support.

Landlord performance

How we're performing as a landlord

As a landlord, we are responsible for providing safe, well-maintained homes and clear information to tenants.

We publish landlord performance information so tenants and partners can see how we are doing across areas such as repairs, safety, complaints, rent, compliance, tenant satisfaction and how we listen to tenants’ views.

This information helps us understand where we are meeting expectations and where we need to improve.

Our strategy

Our strategy and future direction

Our Strategy 2025–2030 sets out where Southdown is heading over the next five years, and how we are building strong foundations for the future.

It is shaped by our belief that a safe home provides the foundation for stability and opportunity, that connection and purpose help people thrive, and that high-quality, person-centred support empowers people to lead their own lives.

Our strategy focuses on four areas:

1

Breaking down silos

People’s lives do not fit neatly into service categories, and support should not feel fragmented.

We want support to feel joined-up, accessible and human across housing, mental health, employment, learning disability services and wider community support.

2

Expanding housing access

We want more people to have access to safe, stable and suitable homes, because housing is often the foundation for wellbeing, independence and opportunity.

3

Enabling independence and meaningful purpose

We want people to have more choice, connection and opportunity in their lives, whether that means work, volunteering, learning, relationships, community activity or greater independence.

4

Creating financial flexibility and resilience

We want Southdown to remain strong and sustainable, so we can continue supporting people now and in the future.
