A welcoming place to live, with accommodation and personal care
Our registered care homes provide accommodation and support together — a complete package of care for people who need higher levels of support throughout the day and night.
You live there as a resident rather than holding a tenancy.
It should still feel like your home: a place where your routines, relationships, culture, choices, and preferences are known and respected.
Southdown has four registered care homes in Portslade, Seaford, and Newhaven. Staff are available 24 hours a day. Our homes support people with a wide range of needs, including people with complex health, physical, communication, and personal care needs.

All of our care homes are rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission.

Support shaped around you
The support you receive is based on what matters to you and what helps you live well.
It may include:
- personal care, health support, and medication
- mobility and physical support
- communication support
- support with emotional wellbeing or times of distress
- daily routines, meals, and looking after your space
- relationships with family, friends, and people who are important to you
- interests, activities, appointments, and being part of the community
- positive behaviour support, where a person needs it
Care home or supported living?
The main difference is the housing and legal arrangement.
In a registered care home, accommodation and care are provided together and you do not have a tenancy. In supported living, you have a tenancy or own your home, and support is arranged separately.
This is not a simple difference between lower and higher support needs. People with complex needs may live in either setting. Your social worker or care coordinator will help explore the options that are available and appropriate for you.
How to access support
A formal referral normally comes from Adult Social Care or a health professional after an assessment and funding decision.
We will then talk with you, your representative where appropriate, and the referring professional to understand your support needs, preferences, communication, and what would make a home a good fit.
We currently have spaces available
We have spaces in our registered care homes across Sussex. If you would like to find out more or discuss a referral, please get in touch.
