Housing, mental health and learning disability support across Sussex

Across Sussex, we provide housing, mental health, employment and learning disability support. We work alongside people to help them build stability, feel more connected and move towards the life they choose.

We also work closely with local authorities, the NHS, commissioners, voluntary sector partners and community organisations, so support feels more joined-up, accessible and easier to navigate, helping people get the right support at the right time.

As people’s needs change, our work continues to grow, with a focus on breaking down barriers and helping people access the right support at the right time.. Over the coming years, we will keep building on our purpose: joining up support, expanding access to safe homes, enabling independence, and strengthening Southdown so we can support more people across Sussex.

A connected model of support

People’s lives do not fit into neat boxes. A safe home, good mental health, work, relationships, independence and wellbeing are often closely connected.

A safe home can make it easier to stay well. Good mental health support can help someone reconnect with work, relationships or community life. The right learning disability support can help people have more choice, confidence and independence.

Our services are different, but they are shaped by the same belief: people should be seen as whole people, with strengths, experiences, hopes and goals of their own.

We bring together housing, connection and support so people can take the next step in a way that feels seamless, timely and human.

Housing and housing support

A safe home changes everything

A safe, stable home can be the foundation for so much more.

We offer housing and housing-related support for people who may be facing homelessness, moving on from hospital or supported accommodation, or needing help to sustain a tenancy.

Our housing support can help people build routines, manage practical challenges, understand their tenancy, access other services and feel more settled in their home and community.

We also work with tenants to keep homes safe, well maintained and suitable for people’s needs. Through HOLD, our shared home ownership scheme, we support some people with long-term disabilities to explore a route into home ownership.

Mental health and employment support

Support through crisis, recovery, and into work

We support people experiencing mental health challenges, including people in crisis, people recovering after a difficult period, and people looking for ongoing connection and support to get well, stay well and prevent crisis.

Our mental health services include one-to-one support, wellbeing centres, crisis cafés, peer support, recovery education, social prescribing and community-based services.

We also provide employment support for people with mental health conditions. Work can be an important part of recovery, independence and belonging, but it can feel difficult to know where to start.

Our employment support helps people build confidence, explore their strengths, prepare for work, find opportunities and stay well in employment. We work at each person’s pace, focusing on their goals and what meaningful work looks like for them.

I like my home. I feel comfortable here. Being here is freedom. I can go out when I like, come back when I like. I've got a lot more independence.

Working with partners
We know people often need support from more than one place. Strong partnerships help make that easier.

We work with local authorities, the NHS, commissioners, housing partners, voluntary sector organisations and community groups to design and deliver support that reflects local need.

Together, we aim to reduce gaps between services, and enable people to access the right support at the right time.
