Women make up nearly half of the UK workforce, but around 900,000 have quit their jobs because of the menopause.
Signing the Menopause Workplace Pledge shows that we have committed to making Southdown a supportive and understanding place for employees going through the menopause.
If people affected by menopause feel supported at work, it can help to increase staff retention, reduce recruitment costs, improve productivity, happiness and wellbeing, and ensure a more diverse workforce.
Supporting staff through menopause
Currently 60% of our female staff in Southdown are aged between 40 and 60 and by signing the pledge, we commit to:
• Recognising that the menopause can be an issue in the workplace and women need support
• Talking openly, positively and respectfully about the menopause
• Actively supporting and informing our employees affected by the menopause
A member of Southdown’s informal Menopause Support Group says,
“It is really positive news that Southdown has signed the Menopause Pledge. It shows a real investment in supporting employees, helping them to navigate the menopause. The peer support is open to ALL employees of Southdown and can be accessed in a group setting or we can arrange a 1:1 meet up or phone call.’’
