“We support clients to be in control of their life.”
Jamie, manager of one of our Supported Living learning disability services, shares his experience of working at Southdown.

“A client’s quality of life is subject to the quality of the support.
To be truly person-centred is to put the client at the centre of their support. That means in every aspect of their life – from choices around breakfast to where a client goes on holiday. It’s important to promote as much choice and control as possible, even small decisions such as choosing which t-shirt to wear, all has an impact on someone’s quality of life.
We support clients to be in control of their life – no matter their ability or disability. We act in their best interest and support people to achieve goals and experience success.
Working in this team inspires me. Everybody brings their own life experience, and we celebrate that. The team work hard and approach each shift positively, and re-set.
Being a manager means I can help support the team to help many clients have a great day. It’s a huge responsibility but I really enjoy it. Even when it’s a challenging day, it’s still a positive one because you know that you’ve helped support someone through it, reduced as much anxiety as possible and helped someone vent any energy as safely as possible.
I’ve really enjoyed moving to Alinora. The bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity to make a difference. Each day I leave to go home I know as a team we’ve made a positive impact and that always feels good.”
