Our leadership

Southdown is led by people who care deeply about our work and the communities we serve. Our Board provides strategic oversight and governance, while our executive and operational leaders turn that vision into action every day.

Many of our leaders started their careers in frontline roles – as support workers, nurses, or volunteers. That experience shapes how we lead: with compassion, accountability, and a commitment to doing what’s right for the people we support.

Executive team

Our executive team works alongside the Board to shape and deliver our strategy, leading Southdown's work across housing, care, mental health, finance, and organisational development.

Neil Blanchard

Chief Executive

Neil has been with Southdown since 2001 and was appointed Chief Executive in 2014. Uniquely for a CEO, he began his career as a Support Worker for people with learning disabilities — an experience that continues to shape his leadership style and his commitment to our clients.

As Chief Executive, Neil is responsible for the strategic direction of Southdown, ensuring we remain financially strong while staying true to our social purpose. He is a passionate advocate for the voluntary sector, representing community organisations in regional health and care partnerships.

“A true indicator of a caring society is how it supports those who face the greatest barriers. That’s why Southdown exists — and why we remain true to our founding mission.”

Jo Raisey

Chief Experience & Transformation Officer

Jo joined Southdown in 2021 as Director of People and Culture before being appointed Chief Experience and Transformation Officer in July 2024. She brings substantial commercial experience from a senior role at the John Lewis Partnership.

“There are wonderful synergies between helping clients achieve fuller lives and doing the same for colleagues.”

Michael Barford

Chief Finance Officer

Michael joined Southdown in November 2024 as Chief Finance Officer. A CIMA-qualified accountant, he brings extensive senior leadership experience from across the commercial, non-profit, and public sectors.

“Strong finances mean stronger services. By planning ahead and building resilience, we can protect the vital support we provide today.”

Matt Gough

Chief Operating Officer

Matt joined Southdown in January 2025 as Chief Operating Officer. His career spans people-focused leadership from private sector facilities management to a frontline role as an RSPCA Inspector.

“It is not enough to simply offer a service; we need to offer hope. My focus is on ensuring our teams look past a diagnosis and see the person.”

Board of trustees

Our Board brings together people with a wide range of experience – in housing, health, social care, finance, and beyond. They provide strategic direction, ensure we are well-run and financially secure, and hold us accountable for delivering on our responsibilities.
